According to North Tongu Member of Parliament Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta authorized the transfer of GH¢142.7 million for national cathedral “scheduled operations” on October 29, 2020, at the request of Chief of Staff Frema Opare, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare.
So far, he claims, 200 million dollars has been spent on unconstitutional releases.

On the request of President Akufo-Chief Addo’s of Staff, Ken Ofori-Atta approved the transfer of a massive GHS142.7 million for national cathedral “planned activities” on October 29, 2020. GHS200 million in unlawful disbursements thus far.
Mr Ablakwa has previously questioned the government’s decision to provide $25 million for the National Cathedral project in the midst of economic concerns.
According to him, the cash might have been utilized to pay Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) trainees, school meals caterers, and service staff.
His remarks follow the disbursement of $25 million towards the construction of the National Cathedral by the Ghanaian government through the Ministry of Finance.
“Authority is hereby granted to release the sum of 25million Ghana Cedis as additional seed money to the National Cathedral Secretariat for the construction of the National for part payment of the outstanding claim from RIBADE,” the Minister of Finance Ken Ofori Atta wrote to the Controller and Accountant General Department (CAGD) in a letter dated March 31st.

Mr Ablakwa said in a tweet, surprisingly, the same government has claimed a shortage of funding to pay NABCo trainees, school meals caterers, service staff, and the 3-year no-textbooks-syndrome, among other things.

“This gross lack of priority cannot be pleasing to the compassionate God we all serve. It is also important to stress that this manifestly insensitive conduct is without parliamentary approval — we shall be demanding answers in Parliament.”
