An alleged dynamite blast at Santa Maria in Accra has left two people injured. The cause of the incident is yet unknown, but neighbors in the region claim they are living in terror.
The explosion is alleged to have occurred at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
Gladys Fiavi, a woman, is alleged to have been caught in the blast, which resulted in toe injury.
The assemblyman for the neighborhood told JoyNews that he learned about the occurrence and hurried to the scene of the explosion.
“The issue happened at a suburb of Santa Maria; it’s a polling station used for voting. Around 3 o’clock [in the afternoon], yesterday, I had a call from one of the residents complaining that there is an explosion in the area, something like a dynamite blast.
“I had to rush to the scene, and I reported to NADMO and all the stakeholders involved. We went to the scene but unfortunately, we couldn’t even locate where the blast came from but they [residents] just heard a blast from the ground ,” Nana Kofi Boandwoah said.
People at the scene who assisted in bringing the injured woman to the Anyaa Polyclinic stated they had never saw anything like it before in the neighborhood.
As a result, people have blocked off the area where the explosion occurred, preventing anyone from approaching the scene.
In the meantime the, “the Police and the NIB and other security agencies are undertaking investigations into the incident,” according to the Assemblyman.
“I would like to appeal to the necessary quarters and the stakeholders involved to come to our aid and solve this issue once and for all because we don’t know when it’s going to happen again,” he added.
According to reports, the injured are responding to treatment.
