Ghana Airports Company’s MD rejects claims of being sacked

Yaw Kwakwa debunks sack letter

Mr. Yaw Kwakwa, the Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), has denied allegations that he has been fired.

A letter from the Ministry of Transport to the Board Chairman of the GACL, received by the media on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, indicated an instruction from President Akufo-Addo to fire the MD.

“Per letter No. OPS127/ 22/104 dated 31st January 2022, His Excellency the President of the Republic has requested that Mr. Yaw Kwakwa’s position as Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited be terminated.”

“I don’t know what you are talking about. My appointment has not been terminated,” states a letter signed by Transport Minister Kwaku Ofori Asiamah.

Mr. Yaw Kwakwa, speaking to the press in Parliament this afternoon, insisted that he is still on the job and that information of his dismissal is strange to him.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” The GACL MD assured the press that his position had not been cancelled.

“It’s nothing, I’ll cross that bridge when I get there,” Mr. Yaw Kwakwa said when asked if he would be shocked if he subsequently found out he had been fired.
