At Shama Junction in the Western Region’s Shama District, a 40-year-old father poisoned his 2 children to death.
Ebenezer Eshun, the suspect’s name, is claimed to have poisoned the youngsters after selecting them to spend the weekend with him.
Comfort Arthur, the children’s mother, explained on Connect FM’s Omanbapa morning show presented by Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson that they are currently encountering issues in their marriage and are living in different residences as a consequence.
“He mostly picks the children to his house for the weekend. This weekend he came for them, he called me last night and told me to come back to his house but I denied. He then told me that he will poison himself and the children if I don’t come back because he does not want his surname in my family,” she explained.
The police was instantly notified and they hurried to Arthur’s residence in Shama Junction in an attempt to save the children, but it was too late, Comfort added.
“When we arrived at his house, he had locked the door. We kept knocking but he did not open, his landlord opened the door and he came out with the children alive. We were on our way to the police station when I realized my children have been poisoned. They started vomiting, we rushed them to the hospital but they all died,” she continued.
The suspect, who used also used the poison in attempt to end his life, was arrested and sent to hospital where he can receive medical treatment while under police supervision.
The children, a boy and a girl, are 3 and 8 years old respectively.
