According to London police, two Nigerians, including a sitting senator, have been charged with conspiring to bring a kid into the United Kingdom for organ harvesting.
“The investigation was launched after detectives were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation, in May 2022,” police said in a statement on Thursday.
Ike Ekweremadu, 60, and Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55, were accused of conspiring to organize another person’s journey with the intention of exploitation, namely organ harvesting.
Later on Thursday, they will appear in Uxbridge Magistrate’s Court in London.
According to the police, the child has been safeguarded, and efforts are being made to offer extra help.
Other information was withheld.
Ekweremadu, a former deputy senate president of Nigeria, hails from the state of Enugu in the southeast.
