Poland accuses Russia of cyber attack that blocked access to online tax filing

Cyber attacks

A Polish government official alleged that Russia was behind a cyber attack that blocked users’ access to the online tax filing system.

“Russians are responsible for yesterday’s attack, it must be made clear. We have information that makes it very likely that this was the adversary,” Janusz Cieszynski, an official responsible for digitalization, told broadcaster Polsat News.

In a written statement, the Russian embassy in Warsaw said that it was “already used to the fact that in the West you can now accuse Russia of anything without evidence. This is another such case in the well-known style of saying it is ‘highly likely’”.

Russian officials have always denied conducting hacking activities, despite claims from Western officials that Moscow is a global leader in the field and employs cyber espionage against foreign governments.
