Ms Janet Nabla, the General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), has asked the New Patriotic Party (NPP) not to dismiss the party’s Member of Parliament (MP) for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo.

“Why should she be expelled from Parliament when her male colleagues, who are also guilty of the same crime, continue to maintain office?” she inquired.

“In this twenty-first century, Ghanaian women are being undermined, humiliated, discriminated against, and penalized for their sheer existence,”  according to the PNC General Secretary.

“These activities are discriminatory, gender biased, and a breach of women’s fundamental rights in our nation,” the PNC said.

According to the PNC, proposals for the removal of Dome Kwabenya’s MP from Parliament are oppressive and should be opposed by all well-intentioned Ghanaians.

“If Parliament is serious about removing her as an MP for breaking its norms, then anyone who has committed similar offenses in the House must be removed as well,” she added.

The statement continued, asking Ghanaians to resist injustice against women, as well as gender-based organizations and the media.

Ms Sarah Adwoa Safo, who is also the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, has been chastised in the media for ‘abandoning’ Parliament and her ministry for weeks, with some demanding for her expulsion from Parliament.
