Suspect dies in police custody in Ashaiman last week, prompting the interdiction of four cops.
On Tuesday, May 3, 2022, the suspect was apprehended.
According to reports, the cause for the suspect’s arrest and detention was not documented in the station log.
Furthermore, additional detainees who realized the suspect required medical assistance late at night and alerted the officer on duty were disregarded until the suspect died the next day, on Wednesday, May 4, 2022.
The District Police Commander is among those interdicted.
The arresting officer, a station officer, and two counter NCOs are the others.
The suspect who has now died is Ebenezer Dosu, a 35-year-old man. On Wednesday, May 4, 2022, around 2:30pm, he was apparently proclaimed dead.
On arriving at the Tema General Hospital, he was pronounced dead.
Other inmates in the cells alerted the police to the fact that the suspect need medical assistance, but the officers did nothing.
The matter was sent to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for further inquiry, and the policemen involved were interdicted.
According to reports last week, Ebenezer Dosu was detained for allegedly traffic offense.
