Ibrahim Boubacar Keita ruled the West African country from September 2013 to August 2020, a volatile period during which a militant Islamist insurgency seized vast swaths of the country’s central and northern regions, eroding his reputation.
After months of anti-government rallies, he was deposed by a military coup.
“President IBK died this morning at 0900 GMT at his house” in Bamako, according to a family member who used the ex-leader’s initials, with numerous additional family members confirming his death.
As at now the cause of death of the ex president is unknown.
