Rye Dag Holmboe and Helena Bonham Carter have admitted to making jokes about their 21-year age difference.
The 56-year-old Enola Holmes star and Holmboe first connected in 2018 at a wedding.
In a profile for The Times published on Saturday, November 26th, she discussed her connection with the art historian, 35.
Regarding their relationship’s media attention, Helena Bonham Carter said: “I like that it’s constantly news that he’s younger than me.
“And what’s hilarious is that I keep getting older, but to the tabloids he remains 33. He’s almost like Benjamin Button.”
Helena Carter has also described Holmboe as “ageless” and an “old soul in a young body,” adding that “people aren’t necessarily their chronological age.”
“There are people I’ve been involved with who aren’t necessarily their age, maturity wise, whereas [Rye] is ageless,” the Oscar winner, who was recently appointed first female president of the London Library, told the publication.
Additionally, according to Helena Carter, the two make light of their age difference, saying, “His eyesight is going, so we say I’m siphoning off his youth at night.”
“Good on men for appreciating different kinds of beauty and finding other things sexy,” Bonham Carter responded when questioned about Cher, who recently announced her romance with 36-year-old music producer Alexander Edwards.
“Collagen is not the only form of sexiness; there’s character, fun, mischief and humour,” she continued, adding: “As long as you’ve got the laughter, the intimacy will be there.”
In another part of the conversation, Helena Carter defended JK Rowling, saying she was being “hounded” because of her opinions on transgender rights.
Additionally, she said Johnny Depp, the godfather of her children, had felt “vindicated” as a result of the jury’s decision in the recent, well-publicized defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard.
