Short Note
Tiger nut (Cyperus esculentus Lativum) is abundantly grown throughout Africa, and they have excellent nutritional value. It can be consumed fresh, semi-dried, or totally dried.
They are widely used to make a cold beverage known as “horchata de chufa” or tiger nut beverage, in Spain, particularly in the Valencian region.
Furthermore, they are grown in North and South America and are commonly used in animal feed. Tiger nuts are becoming increasingly popular as a health food in the Western world, and most likely on the verge of becoming the next big thing in the world of super foods.
Tiger nuts are also offered as tiger nut milk and tiger nut oil. They were popular in the 1950s and 1960s, but most of their health benefits were just recently recognized.

Health Benefits of Tiger nut
1. Boosts Men Sexual Health
According to a 2015 research, tiger nut improved sexual performance in moderately active rats, as evidenced by higher intromission frequency and ratio. Following tiger nut treatment, serum testosterone levels increased considerably.
Additionally, phytochemical analysis found that tiger nut contains quercetin, vitamin C, vitamin E, and the mineral zinc. These substances are all extremely good for a man’s sexual health.
2. Reduces Blood Sugar Level
Tiger nut extract has been shown in animal experiments to help lower blood sugar levels. This might be due to its high fiber content, which may impede sugar absorption in the intestine.
3. Reduces Risk of Cardiovascular Disease
Fats aren’t all harmful for you. Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats are good for your heart.
Tiger nuts have a lipid profile comparable to olive oil, offering the beneficial fats required to lower your risk of high cholesterol and cardiovascular disease.
4. Antioxidant Properties
Essentially, it protects your cells from oxidative damage. Accumulated oxidative damage may increase the risk of cancer, neurological disorders, and other chronic illnesses over time (Office of Dietary Supplements, 2015).
As a result, taking enough vitamin E can help your body stay healthy and prevent these problems. Tiger nuts are a very good source of vitamin E.
5. Improves Fertility
Tiger nuts milk is high in zinc, quercetin, vitamin C, and vitamin E, which is important for both male and female reproduction. These nuts are also necessary for proper menstruation to occur.
Lower antioxidant consumption such as vitamin C and E, was linked to poor semen quality in Spanish research that compared infertile and fertile men.
