Hanna Tetteh Becomes UN Special Envoy For Horn Of Africa

António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, has named Ms Hanna Serwaa Tetteh of Ghana as his Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa.

Ms. Hanna Serwaa Tetteh succeeds Gabonese President Parfait Onanga-Anyanga, who was praised by UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

Ms. Tetteh brings decades of experience at the national, regional, and international levels to the position, according to the UN, including well-honed skills in building consensus among stakeholders, which will allow her to strengthen the UN’s partnership with countries in the Horn of Africa, as well as with the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), in the area of peace and security.

After serving as Director-General of the United Nations Office in Nairobi, Kenya, Ms Tetteh was appointed Special Representative of the Secretary-General to the African Union and Head of the United Nations Office to the African Union in 2019.
